The Small Schools Athletic League’s (SSAL) mission is to improve student-athlete’s academic performance, behavioral outcomes, and attendance by facilitating interscholastic sports competitions tailored to the unique needs of small schools, bringing increased opportunities to the 64,000 New York City public high school students who currently have little to no access to interscholastic sports.
The City Council included the Small Schools Athletic League in today's response to the Mayor's Fiscal year 2015 Budget!
This is a major victory for the SSAL and all student-athletes in NYC.
Out of all the many important issues in New York City, the City Council included the SSAL in this document.
Not only did they advise the DOE to fund the SSAL, they also said the DOE must "develop a fair and equitable system for allocating PSAL funds to schools, and for giving far more high school students an opportunity to participate in competitive sports"
Today was a major step towards transforming the paradigms of NYC High School sports and bringing equitable sports access to all students!
